Why Fear The New?

Photobucket

New can seem so great and yet can seem so mysterious. New can cause such wonder and new can render close friends separated.

Yet in Scripture, we are invited towards the new. Now perhaps here in Wilmington, the verse below could be applied, as we also are the ones who go down to the sea, but it was an invitation to see God's creative and redemptive power. God's desire to make himself known among the earth. We are invited to share in something new! You can read the context of the passage here.

Bring on the new songs of God! Look foward to the new work he will do in this generation!

10 Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise from the end of the earth,
you who go down to the sea, and all that fills it,
the coastlands and their inhabitants.

Actually, I find it interesting that, when analyzing human behavior, we like "new" when it comes to cars, homes, clothing, and gadgets, but not when it comes to "new" behaviors we must engage in...Jesus calls us to be "new" creatures in Him...hmmmm...don't think He was referring to the "new" we generally gravitate to...

This is my first posting to Derik's blog. I'm his big sister Jennifer from Lincoln, Nebraska and I'm very excited to join in!

"Out with the old, in with the new." That's not always easy. We often choose the path of least resistance, which is usually the route with which we are familiar. However, it is not always the best way, and certainly not the path Christ would have us follow. I believe that becoming new creatures in Him involves starting at the core of who we are...our hearts. It brings to mind one of my favorite scriptures: "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and reNEW a right spirit within me." Psalm 51:10. If we continue to seek the Lord in all that we say and do (our behaviors as Rachele refers to), then we're on the right path!
